The SIMHS operates two thrift shops, where budget-minded shoppers
can find gently-used clothing and accessories for women, men and
children, as well as housewares and
sundries, at rock-bottom prices. The shops are managed and staffed by volunteers
and all proceeds support our programs and services.
No
retailing experience is required to volunteer as a thrift shop staffer.
But you should be a person who enjoys meeting people and helping
them find "just the right thing." Among the responsibilities
shared by staffers are sorting through donated items, taking inventory
of clothing by season, hanging and displaying merchandise attractively,
decorating the shop in a seasonal manner, and collecting money from
customers.
The Great Kills Thrift Shop opened its doors in
1963, followed by the Tottenville Thrift Shop in
1970.
We welcome new volunteers at each of our thrift shops. And we hope
you will visit our shops, where you will always bag a bargain. For
more information about volunteering, call Frances Hogan at
718-442-2225 or send an E-mail to FHogan@SIMHS.org.
